Hellfire Mechabeast

I won't say how old this drawing is, as I'm pretty sure it is older than some of the people on my watchlist, but I will say it is the very first piece of art I did intentionally as an homage.

I used to read Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back when it was still a cool, b&w indie comic and they all still had red masks. One particular issue (the Donatello one-shot) was done as a tribute to the then living legend, Jack Kirby, to raise awareness over his unfair treatment by Marvel over this or that. It's the first time I really realized who and why Kirby was cool and was inspired to do this pic. Anyway, I dug it out of one of my folders the other day and felt that it had held up well enough do deserve some color.

So here you go!

I know the basics of the coloring looks simple here but due to the rough shape of the original I had to do a lot of clean-up on it. Then I had to do most of the color in Multiply areas selected with the Polygonal Lasso. I think I wound up using like five shades of red too in order to give some visual variance to it. Fun to revisit this pic after so long though.
